So you are thinking of doing a beauty course and not sure what course is right for you? Or maybe you are even thinking is the beauty industry right for you. You have been thinking that you really love the idea of working with the skin, or nails, waxing or even massage. Or have you always wanted to get into the beauty industry and not sure where to start?

There are so many colleges and courses offering beauty courses that it can get quite overwhelming about what one is right for you. The most important thing to do is research, research, research. You will need to ensure that whatever course you choose has the right qualifications that will allow you to be insured and to work. You need to look for ITEC, CIBTAC or CIDESCO. These are the most well known within the industry and without one of these it is unlikely you will be able to get a job.

In this three part series we will deep dive into the different ways in which you can begin your beauty career- whether it is purely to satisfy a passion for your hobby or if you want to make beauty your career this will help you understand what your options are.

You can do full time beauty, part-time beauty or you can do the course in modules. In this section we will talk through the full-time beauty course.


This course has been running since 1946 and was founded by CIDESCO –  the world’s most recognised international beauty association. With its head office in Zurich, CIDESCO is represented in over 35 countries. The CIDESCO Beauty Therapy Diploma is seen as one of the most prestigious qualifications you can achieve. Why is this? The level to which you learn about the body and treatments is second to none and if you pass your exams employers know that you understand exactly what is needed and can hit the ground running.

The CIDESCO Diploma is awarded to students who have passed the CIDESCO examinations, both theory and practical as well as proof of having gained at least 600 hours work experience in a Beauty Salon or Spa. The pass rate for CIDESCO is 70%.

After graduating the CIDESCO Diploma opens so many doors in the beauty therapy industry. On completion of your course you will hold one of the most prestigious Diploma’s not only in Ireland but across the world. This will allow you to work in salons, day spas, health farms, cruise ships, cosmetic distributors and cosmetic counters among many other careers, both at home and abroad. Whether you want to work for somebody else, go into management, own your own business or teach in a college you will need to be trained to a CIDESCO standard. After qualifying as a CIDESCO  beauty therapist you may then specialise in any area you wish in the beauty or complementary therapy field.

What Qualifications do I Need to Do This Course?

None whatsoever! You will need to go through an interview process so that we can talk through the reality of the course (it’s not easy!) A love of beauty and a willingness and drive to work hard for 9 months is all we need to see.

What Steps Do I Need to Take to Getting On The Course?

First things first – give us a call or pop in for a very informal interview. For the CIDESCO course this should take up to 90 minutes depending on how many questions you have. The course will be explained in more detail and then you have a tour of the college to see where you could be studying next term! When you have decided if you would like to join the course a deposit is required to secure your place and once this is done you are on the road to the career of your dreams!

What could you do with your life if you really decided to? If you decide to do a CIDESCO course it will change your life. If you have been thinking about doing a beauty course this is the one that will give you every opportunity you could ever wish for. CIDESCO is prestigious for a reason – students work extremely hard in a very short space of time. Your confidence as a therapist and as a person will soar.
